MINOR SCHOOL LICENSE
Purpose: To provide guidelines for the approval and use of Minor School License (MSL).
Policy: Students of at least age 14 1/2 and eligible according to the provisions in the Iowa Code, Section 321.194, and the Iowa Administrative Code, Chapter 26, may apply for a Minor School License. Students who meet the qualifications to be issued a Minor School License shall abide by all rules and regulations pertaining to the issuance and use of the license.
A student who is requesting a Minor School License shall submit a copy of his/her most direct route from home to school (and school to home) to the Anamosa Police Department and to the Superintendent’s office. Parents/guardians and the student shall also present a completed Iowa Department of Transportation Affidavit for School License Form and a completed Drivers Education Certificate to the Superintendent. A copy of the minor school license must be retained in the District Office.
A Minor School License may be suspended or revoked by the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) for failure to abide by the guidelines established in the Iowa Code and in the Iowa Administrative Code. School officials shall work cooperatively with law enforcement personnel regarding student compliance of the rules and regulations pertaining to the use of a Minor School License. Law enforcement officials have the authority to inform the D.O.T. regarding violations of the law.
Middle School students applying for Minor School License must demonstrate need and will be determined on a case by case basis by Superintendent or designee.
