On Friday, April 6, a team of five eighth grade students from Anamosa Middle School participated in a Battle of the Books competition at Central Rivers Area Education Agency in Cedar Falls. At the event, students had an hour to answer a written test containing questions about the thirty books on their reading list. The top five qualifiers then moved onto an oral round of questioning. The Anamosa Peanut Butter Jellyfish tied for first place after the written round and, after twelve rounds of oral questions, placed first out of the forty-nine teams that competed. They won individual medals, hardcover books, and lunch that included an opportunity to talk with New York Times best-selling author Katherine Hannigan (Ida B). This is the third time teacher/coach Gail Dinger has taken a team to the annual event, which is open to teams with members ranging in age from 6th-8th grade.
