Special Meeting

May 26, 2011

The Anamosa Board of Education met in special session on May 26, 2011, at 5:32 p.m., in the high school library with President Tiedt presiding. Members present: Kilburg, McKean, Crump and Riniker.

Directors Darrow and Sellnau were absent.

Motion by Crump, seconded by Riniker to adopt the agenda, as printed. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion by McKean, seconded by Crump to approve estimate #1138, lower dewatering drain line to 4’ below existing surface and extend the south line to the creek, and the east line to the detention pond.

After further discussion it was decided to add an additional 400’ of line to make sure all moisture problems could be addressed and rectified. The original cost estimate from Ricklefs Excavating LTD,

Anamosa was $9,646, but with the added 400’ the cost has been increased to a total of $16,000 or

less. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion by Riniker, seconded by Kilburg to approve estimate #1139, for soil stabilization and import of

fill material, Ricklefs Excavating LTD, Anamosa for $357,119.16, as presented. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion by McKean, seconded by Crump to rescind the approval of estimate #1138, lower dewatering

drain line to 4’ below existing surface and extend the south line to the creek, and the east line to the

detention pond at a cost not to exceed $16,000, Ricklefs Excavating. Motion carried 5-0.

It was decided that it would be in the best interest of the school district to go with a deep water trenching system instead of the 4’ deep lines mentioned above. Motion by Kilburg, seconded by

Riniker to approve estimate #1136, deep trench dewatering system for building pad and parking lot

only. 6” tile with sock, in a 14” wide trench with 5’ of porous backfill in lower ½ of trench. The

original cost estimate from Ricklefs Excavating LDT was $112,792.50, but because of some savings

from previous estimates #1136 was lowered to $100,000 or less. Motion carried 5-0.

Motion by Crump, seconded by Riniker to adjourn at 6:53 p.m. Motion carried 5-0.
